Witch trials and gay marriage
Generally speaking, in Catholicism there are rules around gender. But it is a part of it. Read: being queer. When you broke these norms, people in your community might call you a witch. Claim you were involved in magic and casting evil spells and causing harm to your community — even if you were not doing any of those things.

The trouble is, that so much of this narrative relies on assumptions and deductive leaps. Every spinster accused of witchcraft becomes a lesbian. Every goddess-worshiping cult becomes a coven of sapphic feminists. Except, these things are virtually never spelled out.
