Homophobic behaviour

Before each trial, participants were primed with the word "me" or "others" flashed momentarily onto a computer screen. The researchers said quicker reaction time for "me" and "gay," and a slower association of "me" with "straight" would indicate said an implicit gay orientation.

For those witnessing homophobic bullying, or the use of homophobic language, it can be unclear what to do, or how to respond. Where there is a culture of ignoring homophobia, the whole school community — staff, students, and families can experience negative outcomes. Sometimes this language is perceived as harmless, because it is not being used in a direct way to attack a particular student.
